The Annexe
Years 1 and 2
For boys aged five to seven, the Annexe is a self-contained infant school on the Alleyn Park site. It has its own classrooms, library, hall and playground, staffed by a Head of Section, six form teachers for the 120 pupils and specialist teachers for Music, Information Communications Technology, PE and Special Educational Needs. There are also three classroom assistants.
It is at this age that the boys begin to learn the skills of school alongside the development of their own social and educational abilities. We ensure a happy and relaxed atmosphere, allowing boys to build their self-confidence and discover the pleasures of learning. The emphasis is on trying one's best, being kind and helpful and learning to work and play together.
Subjects taught include science, geography, history, music, PE, art, information technology and design technology, as well as the all-important fluency in reading and a good basis in language and mathematical skills.
Teaching methods vary to match the needs of the children, to ensure their potential is fully realised.
Parental involvement in the school, both formal and informal, is very important. Regular events and consultation evenings are supplemented by an open invitation to all parents to come in and talk to the Head of Section or form teachers whenever they wish.
