Book Week
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Book Week with such enthusiasm! We hope the boys in Years 5,6 and 7 enjoyed the events, and that one or more of the author visits may have inspired them into new directions in their reading.
We were very disappointed that the author Ali Sparkes had to cancel her talk to the Year 7s on Monday, as she was feeling unwell. She had just given a wonderfully lively and amusing talk to the Year 6s and it was a great shame that they were the only boys able to hear her. Apart from that however, the week passed off without a hitch!
The ‘Readathon’ on Tuesday was great fun! We managed to complete the reading of The Spook’s Apprentice in 6 ¾ hours, so we then went on to read The Spook’s Tale – a short ‘World Book Day’ publication – finishing that shortly before 4.30p.m.. The boys who took part read beautifully, and seemed to enjoy reading out loud! The whole event was recorded, and can be listened to via the Readathon Podcast on the DCPS website: (Readathon Podcast)
On Friday, virtually all the boys (and many of the staff!) came to school dressed as a character from a book. It was a wonderful day, with some truly brilliant costumes! A gallery of all the photographs from Book Week will be posted on the website as soon as possible.
A large number of used children’s books have already been donated to our charity collection. The collection boxes will remain in the front lobby and in the library for another week, and any used children’s books in reasonable condition will be gratefully accepted.
