Art
During the two years in the Lower School it is hoped that boys will develop confidence, skill, understanding and enjoyment of art, experiencing as many types of media as possible. They will be encouraged to express their ideas using a wide variety of colour, texture, stimuli and materials and to experiment with, and develop control of, tools and techniques. Much of the work will relate to the current class topic.
By the end of Year 4 the boys will also have been introduced to the work of a number of artists representing different styles and periods. By studying their work it is hoped the children will improve their own powers of observation, design and colour mixing.
Outings are arranged to visit relevant art galleries which usually involve both expert instruction and practical activity. Each class has regular use of the Lower School Art Room which is well resourced, and activities also take place in the formrooms.
