Boarding
“This is a good school with some outstanding features, particularly in relation to the promotion of health, health care and catering. The boarding facility is small, and provides a homely, fun yet appropriately structured environment for students. Boarders were highly complimentary about the boarding house, as were their parents. Much of their satisfaction stems from the outstanding contribution of the housemaster, ably supported by the matron; and backed by a committed and enthusiastic headteacher.”
Ofsted Inspection, November 2009
“The school provides an excellent boarding experience in a homely atmosphere and caring environment, which supports and enriches the pupils’ education. This is wholly in keeping with the aims of the boarding house, particularly the aim to provide a home from home where every boy has a part to play. The relationships between pupils and staff in the boarding community are excellent because the staff are committed to providing a safe and happy environment for the boys in their care."
The Prep's boarding house is known as Brightlands and is run by the Housemaster and Matron. Boys are welcomed as flexi boarders from Year 3, staying for two or three nights each week. From Year 5 onwards, boys can choose to become weekly boarders. Most return on Sunday evening and are collected by 5.30pm on Friday evening. Boys who wish to try out boarding can come for a short stay of a week or more, subject to availability.
Brightlands encourages the feeling that the boys are part of an extended family, where they take responsibility for themselves, learn to live together in an effective community, regardless of age, and have a lot of fun being boarders.
The boys’ academic and musical progress is monitored and guidance is carefully provided. Evening activities such as cooking, swimming, dodgeball and wide games are organised, and the boarders are encouraged to make the most of the grounds and facilities available to them. In the course of each term a number of celebratory meals and outings are enjoyed.
Many boys board to become more independent and organised, or as preparation for boarding at senior school. Others simply enjoy the sense of community and have fun living, working and playing alongside their peers.
Please contact us if you would like to find out more about Brightlands. We are very happy to show parents and boys around the house and to discuss boarding options.
