Religious Studies

At the beginning of Year 3 the boys will study the meaning of belief, including examining some aspects of the major faiths and their symbolism.   They will then look at Christmas journeys, leading to an examination of who Jesus was, what he did, and, from the evidence available, consideration about what he was like as a person. In order to gain insight into the historical background of the New Testament they will study what it was like to live in Israel in those times.

In Year 4 the boys will study the meaning of faith and of leadership, mainly in the context of the Old Testament characters but also including people who have lived in more recent times. They will examine what Easter means to Christians, followed by some aspects of Jesus' teaching relating to the parables. Throughout the two years much of the emphasis of the work will be placed on moral issues and the acquisition of concepts such as friendship, peace and forgiveness. Much discussion will take place relating to the boys' own experiences, their growing awareness and developing relationships. It is aimed to present topics in as wide a context as possible with constant reference to the major faiths and festivals.
