Science
We aim to use children’s natural curiosity to understand the world in which they live and to develop a questioning mind. In order to achieve these aims, Science is organised into topics, to form a scheme of work with opportunities for integration with other subjects - Geography, English, Maths, Music, Technology and I.C.T.
Within the Scheme of Work, learning activities are sequenced to ensure progression and taught through direct teaching, providing pupils with real experience.
A wide range of topics is covered within the two years with the aim of developing the scientific mind in the broadest sense. This is supported by a wide range of appropriate practical work.
Year 1 study: Ourselves, growing plants, sorting and using materials, light and dark, pushes and pulls and sound and hearing.
Year 2 study: Health and growth, plants and animals and their environment, variation, grouping and changing materials, forces and movement and using electricity.
