Short Stay Boarding
We hope that the information below answers most of your questions; please feel free to contact us if you have any further queries.
What is short stay boarding?
Short stay boarding means staying at Brightlands for a short but continuous period. The minimum is usually one week, and a number of boys come for a two, three or even four week stay.
Why board for a short period?
Short stay boarding is a way to gain an insight into boarding life. Boys benefit from being immersed in a community and experiencing the whole weekly routine. Some boys try out boarding whilst their parents are on business trips or have particular projects or deadlines at work. Others wish to establish a revision routine in the run up to exams.
Short stay arrangements:
Boys can choose their own weeks for short stay boarding as long as we have space available. We need at least two week’s notice although more is appreciated. Boys will follow our weekly boarders’ routine and will have supervised prep and evening activities. All our laundry is done in-house so most clothes should return home clean!
Drop Off and Pick Up Times:
Short stay boarders who are with us for a week should be dropped off at Brightlands between 7pm and 8pm on Sunday evening. This gives them time to settle in and unpack, and allows us to explain the house routines to them.
Your son can be picked up directly from school on Friday or can return to Brightlands with us in the minibus and be picked up from the house at any time before 5.30pm. If you would like to pick up your son from school on Friday, please let us know in advance so that we can ensure he takes his belongings to school on Friday morning.
