The George Marsh Bursary Fund

George Marsh was a very special Headmaster of the Prep. When he retired at the end of the Spring term 2009 he had completed over 17 years of committed service to the school and above all to the pupils of the Prep. The Governors wished to celebrate his Headship and consulted with George as to how this should best be done.

In true George style he suggested the setting up of the ‘George Marsh Bursary Fund’. The purpose of the Fund is to enable boys from a wide variety of backgrounds to take advantage of the exceptional education that the Prep has to offer. The Fund will have a life of ten years. This will permit both income and capital to be distributed over the life of the Fund and will increase the effectiveness of the Fund in providing bursaries to boys who would not otherwise be able to attend the Prep.

Pupils and parents, past and present, are being invited to subscribe to the Fund. Where pupils or parents are able to contribute £300 or more, then the pupil’s name, together with his years spent at the school, will be inscribed on one of the paving stones which will form part of the new garden area planned to be built in front of the Music School. An example of the stone can be seen in the School Reception. This garden will provide a tangible memory of George’s Headship and of your own association with the Prep.
